February 20, 2013
Oregon’s Senator only Senator with 100% Lifetime Rating on National Environmental Scorecard
Washington, DC- Today, the League of Conservation Voters released the 2012 National Environmental Scorecard, which includes votes during the second session of the 112th Congress. It includes 14 Senate votes, ranging from public health protections to clean energy to land and wildlife conservation. Senator Merkley received a 100% rating in 2012, and is the only Senator with a 100% lifetime score on the Scorecard.
“Clean air and water are essential to healthy families and healthy communities. I’ve been proud to partner with the League of Conservation Voters in my work in the Senate to protect our environment and wilderness areas and to accelerate the transition to an economy that runs on clean energy,” said Senator Jeff Merkley.
For over 40 years, the National Environmental Scorecard issued by LCV has been the nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental, public health, and energy issues. LCV has also released a new interactive online version of the National Environmental Scorecard this year, which allows users to easily see how every member of Congress voted since the launch of LCV’s first Scorecard in 1971. It includes map and chart features that give snapshot comparisons of votes over time and allows users to sort by issues like climate change or clean energy. It can be found online at http://scorecard.lcv.org.
