Este proyecto de ley bipartidista y bicameral tiene como objetivo abordar las preocupaciones sobre la salud, el ecosistema y la infraestructura de aguas residuales causadas por el uso de toallitas h\u00famedas no desechables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCuando se env\u00edan toallitas no desechables a trav\u00e9s de nuestros sistemas de alcantarillado como medio de eliminaci\u00f3n, las instalaciones de aguas residuales de Oreg\u00f3n enfrentan costosas reparaciones y mantenimiento\u201d,<strong>&nbsp;dijo el senador Merkley.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cAdem\u00e1s, estas toallitas est\u00e1n hechas de fibras pl\u00e1sticas sint\u00e9ticas, no son biodegradables, lo que significa que estas toallitas se descomponen en micropl\u00e1sticos da\u00f1inos. Este proyecto de ley es un primer paso necesario para garantizar que estos productos est\u00e9n etiquetados con precisi\u00f3n para que puedan eliminarse de manera adecuada, manteniendo nuestra agua limpia y asegurando que nuestra infraestructura de aguas residuales sea segura y eficiente\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMuchos consumidores que usan toallitas h\u00famedas no saben que tirar estos productos crea problemas importantes para la plomer\u00eda, los equipos de tratamiento de aguas residuales y los sistemas s\u00e9pticos\u201d.&nbsp;<strong>dijo el Senador Collins.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cEsta legislaci\u00f3n requerir\u00eda que los fabricantes etiqueten las toallitas h\u00famedas no desechables, brindando a los consumidores la informaci\u00f3n que necesitan para desecharlas de manera segura. Insto a mis colegas a que apoyen esta legislaci\u00f3n de sentido com\u00fan que ayudar\u00e1 a evitar que los propietarios de viviendas y los contribuyentes tengan que pagar costosas reparaciones\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDurante la pandemia de COVID, los trabajadores de aguas residuales de Anchorage informaron que extra\u00edan diariamente hasta 6,000 libras de toallitas del sistema de alcantarillado\u201d.&nbsp;<strong>dijo el representante Peltola.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cPara abordar este problema, me enorgullece liderar la Ley WIPPES, un proyecto de ley de sentido com\u00fan que dar\u00eda un paso significativo hacia la reducci\u00f3n de la cantidad de basura que termina en nuestras alcantarillas, r\u00edos y oc\u00e9anos. Cada paso que podemos dar para mejorar nuestra infraestructura de aguas residuales y h\u00e1bitats marinos vale la pena, especialmente cuando es tan simple como agregar una oraci\u00f3n a un paquete. Es hora de acabar con este problema para siempre\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLos servicios de plomer\u00eda y tratamiento de aguas residuales son vitales en nuestro pa\u00eds, y se ponen en peligro cada vez que se tiran toallitas no desechables en esa infraestructura\u201d&nbsp;<strong>dijo el representante McClain.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cAl asegurarse de que los fabricantes de toallitas etiqueten correctamente sus envases como no desechables, los consumidores pueden ayudar a prevenir las consecuencias da\u00f1inas que conducen a aver\u00edas y copias de seguridad importantes\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Ley WIPPES aborda el problema generalizado pero en \u00faltima instancia prevenible del enjuague de toallitas h\u00famedas no desechables. Muchos de estos productos est\u00e1n compuestos de fibras pl\u00e1sticas manufacturadas u otras fibras resistentes. Si bien estos productos no se comercializan como desechables, los consumidores a menudo asumen que lo son y con frecuencia los descargan en los sistemas de alcantarillado como medio de eliminaci\u00f3n. Debido a sus fuertes fibras, este tipo de toallitas no se descomponen mientras viajan a trav\u00e9s de los sistemas de alcantarillado. En cambio, las toallitas se convierten en imanes que atraen grasas, aceites y grasas, y se convierten en obstrucciones en las tuber\u00edas de los sistemas de alcantarillado que obstruyen las bombas, bloquean los sistemas de recolecci\u00f3n de alcantarillado y atascan los motores, lo que provoca desbordamientos de aguas residuales y fallas en los equipos de tratamiento.
