\n\u201cAl elegir a la presidenta Xiomara Castro el a\u00f1o pasado, el pueblo hondure\u00f1o dej\u00f3 en claro la importancia de poner fin a la cultura de corrupci\u00f3n, impunidad y desprecio por los derechos humanos que ha plagado a su pa\u00eds durante tanto tiempo. Tras el impulso positivo inicial, ahora se necesita atenci\u00f3n concentrada y compromiso para abordar los enormes desaf\u00edos que tenemos por delante. Es fundamental que Estados Unidos y otros socios internacionales trabajen estrechamente con la administraci\u00f3n del presidente Castro para poner fin a la impunidad por los continuos abusos contra los derechos humanos.<\/p>\n
\u201cA medida que el Subsecretario Zeya llega a Honduras para los Di\u00e1logos Estrat\u00e9gicos y de Derechos Humanos entre Estados Unidos y Honduras esta semana, condeno los recientes asesinatos de defensores de los derechos humanos y del agua en Honduras, quienes son componentes clave de la sociedad civil en una democracia pluralista. Incluso cuando el gobierno de Castro busca rechazar las pol\u00edticas represivas de su corrupto predecesor Juan Orlando Hern\u00e1ndez, sin reformas importantes, el establishment de seguridad sigue en deuda con poderosos intereses especiales. De hecho, los ataques contra los defensores de la tierra y el agua est\u00e1n impulsados por las mismas estructuras criminales, corporativas, militares y paramilitares de \u00e9lite que el gobierno anterior dej\u00f3 en pie.<\/p>\n
\u201cNada cambiar\u00e1 en Honduras hasta que se investiguen las estructuras criminales, que est\u00e1n profundamente arraigadas tanto en el ej\u00e9rcito como en la polic\u00eda, y los perpetradores de abusos contra los derechos humanos rindan cuentas.
