A similar resolution has been introduced in the House by U.S.<br \/>\nReps. Earl Blumenauer and Suzanne Bonamici.<\/p>\n<p>The Thorns\u2019 2-0 victory on Oct. 29 in the NWSL championship<br \/>\ngame over Kansas City made the Portland franchise the first in league history<br \/>\nto win three titles.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe Thorns once<br \/>\nagain proved themselves the flagship franchise for women\u2019s soccer in the United<br \/>\nStates with yet another championship to add to their trophy case,\u201d Wyden<br \/>\nsaid. \u201cWhether it was at the title<br \/>\ncelebration in Portland\u2019s Providence Park or watching the championship game on<br \/>\nTV at the Sports Bra on the east side of town, I witnessed the deep support the<br \/>\nfans have for this team and how that helps makes our city the epicenter for<br \/>\nwomen\u2019s sports in our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Thorns made<br \/>\nhistory this year by winning their third championship\u2014what an amazing<br \/>\nachievement!\u201d said Merkley. \u201cWatching<br \/>\nthe team win was a proud moment for every Portland soccer fan across Oregon and<br \/>\nthe globe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith their third<br \/>\nchampionship in ten years, the Thorns are undoubtably the greatest sports<br \/>\nfranchise in Portland\u2019s history,\u201d Blumenauer said. \u201cLegends like Christine Sinclair, Meghan<br \/>\nKlingenberg, and the rest of the team are great ambassadors of the game and<br \/>\nmake me proud to represent Soccer City, USA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \u201cThe Thorns\u2019 triumph<br \/>\nis an inspiration to us all,\u201d Bonamici said. \u201cWinning a third NWSL Championship title &#8212; the most in league history &#8212;<br \/>\nis a remarkable achievement, and I look forward to continuing to support these<br \/>\nexceptional women on the field and off.
