\ntoday announced that Adelante
\nMujere<\/a>s will receive more than $350,000 from the U.S. Department of
\nAgriculture (USDA) to support Latinx farmers in cultivating and marketing high
\nvalue specialty crops for Washington County and the metro Portland area.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe results of
\nAdelante Mujeres\u2019 20-year record of providing bilingual and
\nculturally-appropriate support to Oregon\u2019s Latinx community speak for
\nthemselves,\u201d Wyden said. \u201cAdelante
\nis the kind of organization that walks the talk of empowering communities from
\nthe inside out. I am gratified to see these dollars go to a program that works
\nhard to make sure the beauty and bounty of Oregon\u2019s agricultural economy is
\naccessible to everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAgriculture is
\ndeeply ingrained into Oregon\u2019s economy, but too many underserved farmers,
\nranchers, and foresters struggle to participate in or get access to USDA
\nprograms and services,\u201d Merkley said. \u201cThis USDA funding to Adelante Mujeres will provide support to their
\nculturally-appropriate programs that meet clients where they are and connect
\naspiring and current Latina immigrant farmers with access to USDA\u2019s programs
\nand grants. I won\u2019t stop fighting to ensure that everyone in Oregon\u2019s
\nworld-class agriculture sector has what they need to continue to grow and
\nthrive.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

 Adelante Mujeres will use the USDA grant funding for a
\nlong-term project toward health and economic prosperity of Latinx communities
\nthrough equitable food distribution systems. The Forest Grove-based
\nnon-profit will provide bilingual and culturally responsive support for
\nLatinx farmers growing high value specialty crops so that they can more easily
\naccess useable farmland, financial planning services, marketing assistance, and
\nother USDA programs.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to
\nsee this investment to support Latinx farmers in Oregon. Almost 90% of
\nagriculture workers in Oregon are Latinx, while only 4% of farm business owners
\nare Latinx. Our programs engage the Latinx community on regenerative
\nagriculture practices by providing classes and coaching in Spanish to help
\nLatinx farmers start their own farm businesses using sustainable practices. We
\nalso operate the Forest Grove Farmers Market and the Cornelius Farmers Market,
\nproviding a launching pad for local small farm businesses to get off the
