{"id":19304,"date":"2024-04-29T13:44:26","date_gmt":"2024-04-29T17:44:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.merkley.senate.gov\/?p=19304"},"modified":"2024-05-08T13:46:07","modified_gmt":"2024-05-08T17:46:07","slug":"wyden-merkley-announce-345000-for-klamath-falls-recycled-water-supply-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.merkley.senate.gov\/es\/wyden-merkley-announce-345000-for-klamath-falls-recycled-water-supply-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Wyden, Merkley Announce $345,000 for Klamath Falls Recycled Water Supply"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gorgenewscenter.com\/2024\/04\/30\/wyden-merkley-announce-345000-for-klamath-falls-recycled-water-supply\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gorge News Center<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Washington DC&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><strong>\u2014&nbsp;<\/strong>U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley this week announced that Klamath Falls will receive $345,000 in federal funds from the&nbsp;<em>Ley de Infraestructura Bipartidista<\/em>&nbsp;y el&nbsp;<em>Ley de Reducci\u00f3n de la Inflaci\u00f3n<\/em>&nbsp;to help conserve groundwater and increase supply of recycled potable water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cRural communities in Oregon depend on water for everything from taking showers at home to sustaining their entire economies,\u201d\u00a0<strong>dijo Wyden.\u00a0<\/strong> \u201cI\u2019m glad this funding from the legislation I fought to pass is supporting Klamath Falls and the environment by helping to sustain water levels for the city, and also reducing waste flowing into the Klamath River.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cCommunities in the Klamath Basin are feeling the dire impact of years of consecutive drought. From families to Tribal communities to local businesses, to fish and wildlife, the impact of drought touches every part of the region,\u201d\u00a0<strong>dijo Merkley.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cWe need to do all we can to foster a sustainable, efficient water supply for the cities like Klamath Falls. With this investment in recycled water utilization and wastewater treatment modernization, the City of Klamath Falls can continue to forge a path to preserve groundwater, enhance river health, and work to fight climate chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The federal funding is being distributed through the Bureau of Reclamation. The city of Klamath Falls will use this funding to develop a strategy with the South Suburban Sanitation District to increase the supply and quality of Klamath Falls\u2019 recycled water, and improve the quality of discharges from the wastewater treatment plant to the Klamath River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cWe are grateful for the support and collaboration of Senators Merkley and Wyden in securing federal funding for the City of Klamath Falls\u2019 Recycled Water Strategy.
