I will continue to advocate for the affordable housing resources Oregonians need to live safe and healthy lives.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIn my 1,000+ town halls statewide, I regularly hear from Oregonians about the need for affordable housing, and I expect the topic will come up again at my town halls Thursday in Deschutes and Crook counties,\u201d <strong>dijo Wyden.<\/strong> \u201cI\u2019m glad this federal investment in Bend will be part of the comprehensive blueprint needed to build solutions along with expanding housing tax credits for low-income and middle-income people in Central Oregon and statewide. Every Oregonian deserves a safe place to call home that isn\u2019t hours away from where they work.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s funding comes through HUD\u2019s Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing (PRO Housing) program, which was established to address critical housing supply needs and to support communities in their efforts to remove barriers to affordable housing. Bend is one of 21 awardees across 19 states and the District of Columbia to receive this funding from fiscal year 2023.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifically, the City of Bend will use the $5 million investment to lead a multi-year, multi-organizational and agency project to identify and address barriers that have resulted in historic underproduction of affordable housing and a widespread housing cost burden in the city. This work will lead to an increase in new construction for affordable workforce housing through three main actions:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\" start=\"1\">\n<li>Remove systemic barriers through planning within the city\u2019s control&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase housing production through streamlined processes and incentives that are within the City\u2019s control while still operating within Oregon\u2019s land use system&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fund the construction of new units&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cBend is thankful for this grant opportunity, and ready to lean into production of more affordable housing.
