I\u2019m gratified that this investment will bolster these efforts in Independence, improving livability for the Oregonians who live in this Polk County community and allowing for future growth and business expansion.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cConcern about aging water infrastructure is a frequent topic during the\u202ftown halls I hold in every corner of Oregon,\u201d<strong> dijo Merkley.<\/strong>\u201cThis federal funding is a major boost for Independence\u2019s efforts to renovate and expand the city\u2019s\u202fwastewater\u202ftreatment plant, while creating a lot of good-paying jobs in the process. I\u2019ll continue to do all I can to ensure every community has reliable water sanitation by addressing outdated water infrastructure here in Oregon and across the nation.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>This project, funded by the U.S. Commerce Department\u2019s Economic Development Administration, was made possible through the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2023, which provided funds for disaster relief and recovery for areas that received a major disaster declaration under the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fema.gov\/disaster\/stafford-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Robert T. Stafford Act<\/a>.
