Oregon\u2019s U.S. Senate
\ndelegation announced last week that it secured $2 million for the Lincoln
\nCounty Sheriff\u2019s Office as part of 2023 appropriations bill funding for 111
\n\u201ccommunity-initiated projects\u201d in Oregon.<\/p>\n
The bills, which
\nstill must go through the appropriations process for resolution with U.S. House
\nproposals, would fund 14 projects in the coast region.<\/p>\n
Sheriff Curtis
\nLanders said the $2 million would fund upgrades at Otter Crest and Highland
\ntransmission stations, though it fell short of paying for the new building
\nneeded at Otter Crest.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to update
\nthe microwave dishes from several years ago,\u201d Landers said. \u201cWe\u2019d replace the
\ngenerator at Highland, the generator at Otter Crest, because it\u2019s outdated, a
\nlot of miscellaneous items that we had the opportunity to put into that
\nfunding, and we\u2019re very fortunate to get that.\u201d<\/p>\n
If the funding is
\napproved by the full Congress, Landers said it would likely be next summer, at
\nthe earliest, that the office could begin the upgrades. He said it originally
\nsubmitted the request to Sen. Jeff Merkley\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
The joint press
\nrelease from Merkley and Sen. Ron Wyden announcing the appropriations package
\ntouted their previous success obtaining funding for their home state.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\nMerkley\u2019s position on the powerful Appropriations Committee and key role
\npushing Oregon priorities in the drafting of the bills, and the collaborative
\nway that Senator Merkley and Wyden work together to advocate for projects from
\nOregon, last year the two senators were able to secure more projects for their
\nhome state than any other senators besides Senate Majority Leader Chuck
