{"id":20406,"date":"2024-08-14T10:57:21","date_gmt":"2024-08-14T14:57:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.merkley.senate.gov\/?p=20406"},"modified":"2024-09-10T10:59:11","modified_gmt":"2024-09-10T14:59:11","slug":"wyden-merkley-announce-7-8-million-energy-investment-in-rural-oregon-schools-including-jefferson-county-509j","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.merkley.senate.gov\/es\/wyden-merkley-announce-7-8-million-energy-investment-in-rural-oregon-schools-including-jefferson-county-509j\/","title":{"rendered":"Wyden, Merkley announce $7.8 million energy investment in rural Oregon schools, including Jefferson County 509J"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ktvz.com\/news\/jefferson-county\/2024\/08\/14\/wyden-merkley-announce-7-8-million-energy-investment-in-rural-oregon-schools-including-jefferson-county-509j\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">KTVZ<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley announced Wednesday a $7.8 million investment in rural Oregon school districts to support energy improvement projects like new heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, lighting upgrades, alternative fuel (such as electric) vehicles, and renewable energy technologies.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the nearly 1,100 town halls I&#8217;ve had throughout Oregon, I&#8217;ve heard from teachers, families and students about the need for updated infrastructure in our schools and the demand for more local job opportunities,\u201d&nbsp;Wyden said.&nbsp;\u201cThis significant investment will provide healthy, comfortable environments for kids and educators, and generate much-needed local construction jobs in rural counties statewide.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSchool opens up new worlds and possibilities to students of all ages. In order for students to get the most out of their education, schools must provide a safe and healthy learning environment,\u201d&nbsp;Merkley said.&nbsp;\u201cThe several Oregon school districts receiving this federal funding will be able to create more sustainable and equitable infrastructure, especially for rural students and educators, all while creating good-paying local jobs in the process.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This Renew America&#8217;s Schools Prize and Grant investment, funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will improve 11 facilities identified by the Oregon Department of Education in the following Oregon school districts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>John Day SD3\/Grant SD<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jefferson County SD509J<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Douglas County SD 4\/Roseburg SD<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Three Rivers\/Josephine County SD<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tillamook SD 9<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Winston-Dillard SD 116<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>South Umpqua SD 19\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are thrilled that three of our schools\u2014Evergreen Elementary, Fort Vannoy, and Illinois Valley High School\u2014will be recipients of the Renew America&#8217;s Schools Grant,\u201d&nbsp;said Dave Valenzuela, Three Rivers School District Superintendent.&nbsp;\u201cOur heartfelt thanks go out to Senators Wyden and Merkley for their support. Our schools are in critical need of improvements, especially with the increasing challenges of heat and smoke during fire season. It&#8217;s essential that our students have a healthy and comfortable environment to learn and thrive.
