The&nbsp;projects will support management of invasive grasses, reduce wildfire risks, and restore sagebrush habitat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cRestoring and conserving Oregon\u2019s sagebrush ecosystems is critical to protecting biodiversity, mitigating the dangers of invasive species, and making our landscapes more resilient to climate chaos and wildfires,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Merkley,&nbsp;who used his position as Chairman of the Interior Appropriations Subcommittee&nbsp;to secure this funding in the&nbsp;<em>Ley de Infraestructura Bipartidista<\/em><\/strong><em>.<\/em>&nbsp;\u201cThis crucial funding will support collaborative conservation efforts and help ensure our rural economies and important rangelands are strong long into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOregon\u2019s&nbsp;sagebrush&nbsp;ecosystems are critical to ensuring resilience against the disastrous effects of the climate crisis like wildfires and drought,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>dijo Wyden.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cThis federal funding will help regions on the frontline of this fight use a proven approach of ecosystem restoration and conservation. I applaud this federal investment from the&nbsp;<em>Ley de Infraestructura Bipartidista<\/em>&nbsp;that I fought to secure, and will continue to push for more resources to support restoration projects across Oregon.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s federal funding from USFWS was made possible by the landmark&nbsp;<em>Ley de Infraestructura Bipartidista<\/em>,&nbsp;which is investing&nbsp;nearly $10 million in fiscal year 2025 funds to support 53&nbsp;strategic projects in Western states focused on habitat restoration and on-the-ground science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Oregon projects receiving funding are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>$197,424\u00a0for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fws.gov\/project\/southeastern-oregon-collaboration-address-primary-threats-sagebrush-landscapes\">Southeastern Oregon Collaboration<\/a>\u00a0to address primary threats to sagebrush landscapes in Baker and Malheur counties.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$166,000 for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fws.gov\/project\/post-fire-restoration-oregon-rangelands\">post-fire restoration to Oregon rangelands<\/a>\u00a0in Malheur County.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$164,195 for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fws.gov\/project\/county-line-juniper-project\">county line juniper removal project<\/a>\u00a0in Deschutes and Harney counties.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$105,447 to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fws.gov\/project\/improving-landscape-resiliency-public-and-private-lands-sagebrush-obligate-species-through\">improve landscape resiliency on public and private lands for sagebrush obligate species through invasive weed management<\/a>\u00a0in Baker County.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$46,624 for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fws.gov\/project\/defending-and-growing-core-adaptive-management-and-virtual-fence-trout-creek-ranch\">defending and growing the core: adaptive management and virtual fence at Trout Creek Ranch<\/a>\u00a0project in Harney County.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">###<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Washington, D.C. \u2013&nbsp;Oregon\u2019s U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden announced today the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) awarded a total of $679,690 to five projects, primarily in Eastern Oregon, that&nbsp;boost&nbsp;habitat restoration and build community resilience to the impacts of climate change.
