This funding proves that investing in infrastructure means investing in the health and wellbeing of Oregonians for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cOregonians in every corner of the state should be able to turn on their tap without fear of lead contamination in their drinking water,\u201d <strong>Merkley\u202fsaid.\u202f<\/strong>\u201cThese federal funds will allow for the replacement of lead pipes around the state and improve our water infrastructure systems\u2014a top concern I hear about in\u202fthe\u202ftown halls I hold in every county in Oregon. I\u2019ll continue to do all I can ensure every community in Oregon and across the U.S. has reliable access to safe, clean drinking water.\u201d\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The federal investment is through the Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, and is intended to help replace all lead water pipes from Oregon&#8217;s water supply within the next 10 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wyden and Merkley have long been champions for more resources to address aging water infrastructure. In May, Wyden and Merkley announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyden.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/wyden-merkley-announce-55-million-to-replace-aging-water-infrastructure-in-oregon\">$5.5 million<\/a> to replace aging water delivery infrastructure in communities across Oregon. In addition, the senators have supported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyden.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/wyden-merkley-announced-577943-for-pollution-monitoring-to-the-confederated-tribes-of-coos-lower-umpqua-and-siuslaw-indians\">water pollution monitoring<\/a> y <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyden.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/wyden-merkley-announce-4-million-federal-investment-for-wastewater-infrastructure-improvements-in-independence\">wastewater upgrade projects<\/a> for communities and tribes across Oregon.
