Its location near Pioneer Courthouse Square is aimed at amplifying Portland\u2019s status as a foodie destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Executive Director Jessica Elkan said it \u201cwill be a seven day a week public market featuring a teaching kitchen, an event space, bakery, fish market, butcher shop, cheese shop, wine merchant, local farmstands selling Oregon\u2019s produce, a bookstore, prepared foods, and fast casual dining.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPortland is on the road back,\u201d said Sen. Jeff Merkley, one of the many lawmakers and leaders at the press conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.koin.com\/news\/james-beard-market-plans-for-portland-changing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">n 2016, the project was scrapped<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;after years of work implementing the project on the west side of the Morrison Bridge. At that time, project leaders said they had their eye on other potential locations including the southwest waterfront near Zidell Yards and the southeast waterfront near OMSI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neither spot came to fruition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But officials hope to open at least part of the James Beard Public Market in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The market is named for James Beard, the famous chef and writer who was born in Portland in 1903.
