{"id":21024,"date":"2024-12-11T16:39:26","date_gmt":"2024-12-11T21:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.merkley.senate.gov\/?p=21024"},"modified":"2024-12-12T09:38:36","modified_gmt":"2024-12-12T14:38:36","slug":"wyden-merkley-announce-2-million-for-warm-springs-affordable-housing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.merkley.senate.gov\/es\/wyden-merkley-announce-2-million-for-warm-springs-affordable-housing\/","title":{"rendered":"Wyden, Merkley Announce $2 Million for Warm Springs Affordable Housing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Washington D.C.\u2014<\/em><\/strong>U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley today announced a federal investment of $2 million for the Warm Springs Housing Authority to build more affordable housing for low- and moderate-income Tribal members.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThere is a serious need for more affordable housing across Oregon, but especially in Tribal communities like Warm Springs,\u201d <strong>wyden dijo<\/strong>. \u201cI applaud this federal investment to address the affordable housing crisis head on, and will continue to fight for more projects like these that tackle the problem directly by getting a roof over people\u2019s heads and a floor under their feet.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s critical that Tribal families have affordable, safe places to live that will foster community and connect them to their land,\u201d <strong>dijo Merkley.<\/strong> \u201cThis critical federal housing funding will help address an acute housing shortage in Warm Springs. I will keep working to make sure everyone in our state has the resources they need to thrive and live safe, healthy lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The $2 million federal investment is available through the Department of Housing and Urban Development\u2019s Indian Community Development Block Grant program, and will be used to build six new single-family homes in a new 45-unit development project in Warm Springs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wyden and Merkley have both been advocates for resources to increase affordable housing within Tribal communities. In August 2023, Merkley and Wyden announced<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyden.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/merkley-wyden-announce-75-million-for-new-housing-in-warm-springs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> $7.5 million<\/a> for affordable housing projects in Warm Springs with another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyden.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/wyden-merkley-nearly-3-million-to-confederated-tribes-of-the-warm-springs-reservation-and-burns-paiute-tribe-to-build-affordable-housing-and-repair-cultural-heritage-center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$2 millones<\/a> that was announced in May 2023.
