\u201cThis is great news for HP and its employees who are an essential brigade in Oregon\u2019s battle plan to build an even stronger chip industry that keeps generating jobs in the Willamette Valley, the Silicon Forest and statewide,\u201d dijo Wyden.<\/strong> \u201cI\u2019m proud to have worked to pass the CHIPS Act that helps  HP and Oregon have an even stronger heartbeat at the center of U.S. semiconductor production with this $53 million investment in an expanded Corvallis chip fab, home to HP enhanced R&D and decades-long partnerships with researchers and students at Oregon State University. Stronger chips manufacturing in our state and nationwide is a vital matter of national security to move semiconductor supply chains away from China and back home to America.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur 21st century economy is powered by tiny chips that hold huge opportunities, and this major federal investment in HP\u2019s cutting-edge work ensures their possibilities are homegrown and harnessed in Oregon,\u201d\u00a0dijo Merkley.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cIt was exciting to visit HP\u2019s Corvallis campus and see how the\u00a0CHIPS y Ley de Ciencias\u00a0<\/em>will help them expand and take tomorrow\u2019s technologies from discovery to design to delivery, all while creating good-paying local jobs. These essential ingredients will keep Oregon a world leader in semiconductor manufacturing for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

“This funding for HP is a massive step in support of our nation’s microchip manufacturing capabilities and places Oregon as a leader in this critical sector,” Rep. Hoyle said. <\/strong>“This $53 million investment will help create good jobs right here in the Willamette Valley and opportunities for students at Oregon State University.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Oregon\u2019s semiconductor industry employs roughly 33,000 people and is the state\u2019s largest manufacturing sector. Additional CHIPS Act investments announced previously in Oregon include $8.5 billion for Intel in Hillsboro; a $72 million PMT (preliminary memoranda of terms) for Microchip Technologies in Gresham; and more than $9.25 million in awards from the National Science Foundation for Oregon\u2019s research institutions and businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
