Americans don\u2019t want a national surveillance state, but right now, more Americans than ever before are having their faces scanned at the airport without being able to exercise their right to opt-out.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI have long sounded the alarm about the TSA\u2019s expanding use of facial recognition because the agency\u2019s stated goal is to mandate this technology for all American air travelers, ending the current opt-out system. I\u2019ll keep pushing for strong Congressional oversight to protect Americans against the dangers of a surveillance state powered by this technology and safeguard our fundamental right to privacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Merkley led a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.merkley.senate.gov\/es\/ahead-of-busy-holiday-travel-season-merkley-urges-oversight-of-tsas-unchecked-use-of-facial-recognition-technology-at-airports-nationwide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bipartisan group of Senators in a letter<\/a> urging Inspector General Cuffari to launch this investigation into the TSA\u2019s use of&nbsp;facial&nbsp;recognition technology.
