This bill sends a clear message to bad actors overseas: there is no place for violence and discrimination against the LGBTQI+ community.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cWe are living in a time in which governments around the world continue to make dangerous threats against our LGBTQI+ family, friends, and neighbors,\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong>said Merkley, author of the Equality Act.&nbsp;<strong>\u201c<\/strong><strong>Every person<\/strong><strong>\u2014<\/strong><strong>regardless of who they are, whom they love, or where they live\u2014has the right to be treated with decency and respect.
