WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 Hoy, el senador estadounidense por Oregon, Jeff Merkley, emiti\u00f3 la siguiente declaraci\u00f3n despu\u00e9s de que los republicanos del Senado aprobaran a toda prisa un cambio partidista en las reglas del proceso de nominaciones del Senado:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEl proceso de nominaciones est\u00e1 roto y necesita urgentemente una reforma. Pero en lugar de consultar con los dem\u00f3cratas para lograr una soluci\u00f3n bipartidista, los republicanos del Senado han impuesto a toda prisa un cambio de reglas partidista para considerar un n\u00famero ilimitado de nominaciones en bloques individuales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Por tercera vez este a\u00f1o, los republicanos han optado por seguir la v\u00eda partidista y subvertir la instituci\u00f3n para impulsar la imprudente agenda del presidente Trump. En este caso, nominados hist\u00f3ricamente no cualificados ser\u00e1n confirmados con un debate asombrosamente escaso y un total desprecio por las responsabilidades constitucionales del Senado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo es descabellado imaginar que se agrupen los nombramientos cualificados con los de personas no cualificadas, anulando la capacidad de los senadores para promover a los cualificados y bloquear a los no cualificados; sin embargo, hacer eso es precisamente la responsabilidad que la Constituci\u00f3n otorga al Senado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCon una sola maniobra, los senadores republicanos menoscabaron nuestra responsabilidad constitucional de 'asesorar y dar consentimiento'. Sin la capacidad fundamental del Senado para servir de contrapeso a las dem\u00e1s ramas del gobierno, la voz del pueblo estadounidense se reduce a un susurro.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
