Washington, D.C. \u2013 Today, Oregon\u2019s U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley\u2014the lead Senate sponsor of the Epstein Files Transparency Act<\/em><\/a>\u2014issued the following statement after the Trump Administration indicated it would only release part of the Epstein Files, a violation of the law he championed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Trump Administration has had almost one year since Trump returned to office to appropriately redact the Epstein Files to prepare them for release. Instead of meeting the legally required deadline today to release all of the files, they have chosen to illegally disregard the law I led the fight in the Senate to pass. By failing to comply, the Administration is openly denying \u2018equal justice under the law\u2019 to all of Jeffrey Epstein\u2019s victims. <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is beyond unacceptable that Donald Trump would side with the rich and powerful to help cover up the abuse of our most vulnerable. I\u2019ll keep fighting to release all the Epstein Files and am exploring all avenues and legal tools to get justice for the victims and transparency for the American people.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month,\u00a0Merkley led a bipartisan group of lawmakers<\/a>\u00a0to demand a briefing from Attorney General Pam Bondi on the U.S. Department of Justice\u2019s efforts to comply with the\u00a0Epstein Files Transparency Act<\/em>\u00a0and fully release the Epstein Files by December 19, 2025. In response to the\u00a0Trump Administration\u2019s failure to provide said briefing,\u00a0he teamed up with New Mexico\u2019s U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luj\u00e1n<\/a>\u2014who co-led the Senate introduction of the\u00a0Epstein Files Transparency Act\u00a0<\/em>with Merkley\u2014to\u00a0block over 90 pending civilian nominations before the Senate from being carried over to the new session of Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
