{"id":24983,"date":"2026-06-25T12:52:28","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T16:52:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.merkley.senate.gov\/?p=24983"},"modified":"2026-06-25T12:53:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T16:53:08","slug":"foster-merkley-introduce-bicameral-investor-choice-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.merkley.senate.gov\/es\/foster-merkley-introduce-bicameral-investor-choice-act\/","title":{"rendered":"Foster, Merkley Introduce Bicameral Investor Choice Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington DC<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL-11) and Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) introduced the Investor Choice Act, legislation to prohibit pre-dispute mandatory, or \u201cforced,\u201d arbitration agreements and preserve customers\u2019 ability to bring or join class action lawsuits in certain financial sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Individuals shouldn&#8217;t need to surrender their legal rights because they choose to work with a financial advisor or broker-dealer to plan for their retirement and invest their hard-earned money,&#8221;<strong>&nbsp;said Congressman Foster.<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8220;This legislation levels the playing field for consumers and prevents them from being victims of a rigged system that denies them fair legal recourse if they are wronged. I&#8217;m proud to work with Senator Merkley on this important legislation for American consumers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cEvery consumer deserves a fair chance to seek justice when they have been wronged by an investment professional,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>dijo el senador Merkley.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cToo often, the arbitration system is stacked against consumers\u2014allowing financial firms to select the arbitrators who decide cases, pay them, and keep them in line for future work.
