I will continue to fight for more resources to expand health care opportunities for native tribes across Oregon.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cTribal communities too often face barriers to accessing the care they need and deserve,\u201d <\/strong>said Merkley, who serves as ranking member of the Senate Interior-Environment Appropriations Subcommittee, which funds the IHS.<strong> \u201cThis federal investment in the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Health &amp; Wellness Clinic will strengthen the clinic\u2019s infrastructure\u2014creating a safer and more energy efficient space for patients and providers in the years to come. I\u2019ll keep fighting to strengthen Tribal health care and secure the federal investments that help communities thrive.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp; $1,275,246 federal award from the Indian Health Service will support upgrades to the&nbsp;Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Health &amp; Wellness Clinic\u2019s HVAC system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cThe award of these funds by the IHS fills an important need for the Grand Ronde Tribe and its Health and Wellness Center. For almost 30 years, our Health and Wellness Center has been taking care of our Tribal Members and its surrounding community. These resources will go a long way in replacing the outdated infrastructure at our facility, increasing our energy efficiency, and reducing our environmental impact. We\u2019re grateful to Senator Wyden, Senator Merkley, and all of those who championed these funds for tribal communities like ours,\u201d<\/strong> said Kelly Rowe, Executive Director of Health Services for Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Wyden and Merkley have consistently championed federal support for Oregon&#8217;s tribal communities. Wyden and Merkley authored and passed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyden.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/senate-passes-wyden-and-merkleys-western-tribal-water-infrastructure-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Ley de Infraestructura de Agua Tribal Occidental<\/em><\/a> in 2021 to authorize $250 million for urgent drinking water improvements on tribal lands, including the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. In 2020, Wyden and Merkley<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyden.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/wyden-merkley-coquille-indian-tribe-secures-900000-federal-health-grant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> delivered $900,000 in CARES Act funding<\/a> to help the Coquille Indian Tribe acquire a community health clinic.
