WASHINGTON, D.C. – Oregon’s U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley released the following statement today after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Fulton v. City of Philadelphia<\/i>:<\/p>\n

“Of all the jobs I’ve had in my life, being a dad has always been the most special to me. It’s a deeply fulfilling experience—one I wish for anyone who wants it. Barring responsible adults who want to provide a foster child with a loving home from doing so—just because of who they are or whom they love—is discrimination that violates basic freedoms and harms vulnerable children.<\/p>\n

“While this decision is narrow in scope, we cannot be complacent in the face of ongoing attacks on the LGBTQ community. Our next step is to pass the Ley de Igualdad<\/i> and enshrine freedoms for LGBT Americans in our laws so the bells of freedom can ring for every American.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
