UU. de Oreg\u00f3n, Jeff Merkley, se asoci\u00f3 hoy con la Representante Katie Porter (D-CA-45) para dirigir a tres Senadores y 46 Representantes en la presentaci\u00f3n del&nbsp;<i>Ley de alivio de la deuda m\u00e9dica<\/i>\u2014legislaci\u00f3n que eliminar\u00eda la deuda m\u00e9dica pagada o resuelta del informe de cr\u00e9dito de un paciente e instituir\u00eda un per\u00edodo de espera de un a\u00f1o antes de que se pueda informar una nueva deuda m\u00e9dica.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cNo hay nada m\u00e1s escandaloso que el hecho de que despu\u00e9s de que una familia haya pagado su deuda m\u00e9dica, su cr\u00e9dito a\u00fan se destruye como si esa deuda siguiera sin pagarse\u201d.&nbsp;<b>dijo Merkley<\/b>. \u201cLas agencias de cr\u00e9dito est\u00e1n pateando repetidamente a las familias cuando est\u00e1n deprimidas y luchando por recuperarse, y en medio de esta pandemia devastadora, ya es hora de que arreglemos eso\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;Incluso antes de que estallara la crisis del coronavirus, decenas de millones de estadounidenses ten\u00edan una factura de atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica vencida en su informe de cr\u00e9dito, y la deuda m\u00e9dica era una de las principales razones por las que los estadounidenses se declararon en bancarrota. A diferencia de las deudas de tarjetas de cr\u00e9dito o los pr\u00e9stamos que los consumidores aceptan voluntariamente, las deudas m\u00e9dicas son el resultado de un accidente inesperado o una enfermedad fuera de nuestro control antes de causar un da\u00f1o significativo a largo plazo en el puntaje crediticio de una persona. Esto se debe a que una vez que las facturas m\u00e9dicas no pagadas se asignan a cobranzas, resultan en marcas despectivas que marcan los puntajes crediticios durante a\u00f1os, incluso despu\u00e9s de que se hayan pagado las deudas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;El&nbsp;<i>Ley de alivio de la deuda m\u00e9dica<\/i>&nbsp;deshar\u00eda esa injusticia al diferir las marcas despectivas en los puntajes de cr\u00e9dito por el cobro de deudas m\u00e9dicas por un a\u00f1o, dando a los pacientes tiempo para pagar sus facturas m\u00e9dicas antes de que sus registros se vean afectados.
