Washington, D.C. – Oregon’s U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden today announced nine federal grants awarded across Oregon that support innovation in the state’s wood products industry—creating jobs in rural Oregon, advancing research at Oregon State University and the University of Oregon, and reducing wildfire risks and improving forest conditions statewide.<\/p>\n
The U.S. Forest Service grant program was created by the Ley de Innovaci\u00f3n de la Madera<\/i>; Merkley worked with Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID) to mobilize a bipartisan coalition, including Wyden, to successfully advocate for the bill’s inclusion in the 2018 Farm Bill<\/a>. The bill in part created the Wood Innovations Grant<\/a> program that provides funding to accelerate the adoption of emerging wood technology for building construction.
