WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 El Senador de Oreg\u00f3n Jeff Merkley emiti\u00f3 la siguiente declaraci\u00f3n en reacci\u00f3n a una nuevo informe del Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos (HHS)<\/a> detallando fallas sistem\u00e1ticas que traumatizaron a los ni\u00f1os que fueron separados de sus familias en la frontera y les permitieron escabullirse por las grietas del sistema.<\/p>\n

Merkley llam\u00f3 la atenci\u00f3n nacional sobre la pol\u00edtica de separaci\u00f3n de ni\u00f1os de la administraci\u00f3n Trump cuando fue rechazado de un centro de detenci\u00f3n infantil del HHS en junio de 2018<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cEl informe de hoy detalla fallas impactantes en todos los niveles de la administraci\u00f3n. Siempre debemos recordar que las v\u00edctimas de estos fracasos son ni\u00f1os vulnerables que buscaron seguridad en nosotros y en cambio recibieron trauma y dolor.<\/p>\n

\u201cEstas fallas sistem\u00e1ticas comenzaron con pura incompetencia y r\u00e1pidamente se convirtieron en crueldad. El HHS no planific\u00f3 ni se prepar\u00f3 para la pol\u00edtica de separaci\u00f3n de ni\u00f1os y no ten\u00eda camas adicionales listas para los ni\u00f1os que pronto estar\u00edan bajo su cuidado. Como resultado, se dejaba a los ni\u00f1os en corrales de detenci\u00f3n temporales durante d\u00edas antes de ser trasladados a otras instalaciones. Contrariamente a la insistencia de la administraci\u00f3n en ese momento, HHS tampoco ten\u00eda un sistema para rastrear qu\u00e9 ni\u00f1os hab\u00edan sido separados o para conectarlos con sus padres, lo que agrava la incertidumbre, el miedo, el peligro m\u00e9dico y el trauma para los ni\u00f1os que fueron separados de sus familias y detenidos en un pa\u00eds extra\u00f1o<\/p>\n
