Oregon’s U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden have announced that nearly $7.2 million in federal grants will help Oregon airports fund “critical rehabilitation, reconstruction, and installation projects”.<\/p>\n
Merkley said Oregon’s airports connect the state to economic opportunity and vital resources. He said this investment in airport infrastructure will improve the safety of Oregon’s airports.<\/p>\n
Wyden said “a big piece of helping communities in every nook and cranny of Oregon to generate good jobs and build on their economic strengths depends on safe and robust transportation infrastructure”. He said the grants are a must for both the current needs and the long-term needs of the airports.<\/p>\n
The U.S. Department of Transportation Airport Improvement Program grants fund runway rehabilitation and taxiway construction projects, as well as taxiway lighting and signage. The largest grant was just over $3.7 million for the Southwest Oregon Regional Airport in North Bend. Airports in Medford, Cave Junction, Salem, Joseph and Condon also received grants from the agency.<\/p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
