{"id":4092,"date":"2019-06-19T13:35:00","date_gmt":"2019-06-19T17:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.merkley.senate.gov\/senator-merkley-talks-about-opioids-and-treatment\/"},"modified":"2023-07-24T11:07:39","modified_gmt":"2023-07-24T15:07:39","slug":"senator-merkley-talks-about-opioids-and-treatment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.merkley.senate.gov\/es\/senator-merkley-talks-about-opioids-and-treatment\/","title":{"rendered":"La senadora Merkley habla sobre los opioides y el tratamiento"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Senator Jeff Merkley says there&#8217;s a major opioid problem across the nation.<\/p>\n<p>He introduced a bill, the Opioid Treatment Surge Act, to increase opioid treatment availability, and hold drug companies accountable.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Merkley says drug companies have contributed to the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans.<\/p>\n<p>He is proposing that a proportional amount of money from opioids sold by these companies go towards a surge fund.<\/p>\n<p>The fund of two billion dollars would provide treatment to help people break their addiction<a href=\"https:\/\/ktvl.com\/news\/nation-world\/opioid-maker-agrees-to-pay-225m-to-settle-federal-probes\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/ktvl.com\/news\/nation-world\/opioid-maker-agrees-to-pay-225m-to-settle-federal-probes\" rel=\"noopener\">&nbsp;habit to opioids<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/ktvl.com\/news\/local\/oregon-sees-third-highest-increase-in-synthetic-opioid-deaths-nationwide\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/ktvl.com\/news\/local\/oregon-sees-third-highest-increase-in-synthetic-opioid-deaths-nationwide\" rel=\"noopener\">Opioid addiction is killing more people<\/a>&nbsp;than cart accidents in our country, and a lot of it begins with the prescription of oxycontin and other opioids the company, the Sackler company that put forward this drug, knowingly mislead the public about the addiction,&#8221; Merkley said.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Merkley also added that<a href=\"https:\/\/ktvl.com\/news\/local\/oregon-rep-introduces-safe-opioid-disposal-legislation\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/ktvl.com\/news\/local\/oregon-rep-introduces-safe-opioid-disposal-legislation\" rel=\"noopener\">&nbsp;Oregon is significantly impacted<\/a>&nbsp;by this nationwide epidemic.<\/p>\n<p>Opioids sold on the streets are sometimes mixed with fentanyl which produces more deaths by overdose.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senator Jeff Merkley says there&#8217;s a major opioid problem across the nation.
