WASHINGTON – Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-OR., and Rep. Mike Levin (D-CA-49) introduced Wednesday in the Senate and House the <\/span>Ley de veh\u00edculos de cero emisiones de 2019<\/i>, which they said presents a bold plan for transitioning the United States to 100% zero-emission vehicles.<\/span><\/p>\n

The lawmakers said their plan will position the United States to lead the world in vehicle innovation, tackle climate chaos and reduce asthma attacks and premature deaths caused by the pollution gasoline engines produce.<\/p>\n

Seg\u00fan un informe de 2016 publicado por la Asociaci\u00f3n Estadounidense del Pulm\u00f3n, la transici\u00f3n a veh\u00edculos de cero emisiones generar\u00eda $33 mil millones en ahorros totales para la salud y el clima para 2050. La reducci\u00f3n de 90% en la contaminaci\u00f3n que causa smog y holl\u00edn se traducir\u00eda en 195.000 d\u00edas laborales menos perdidos. 96.000 ataques de asma menos y 2.200 muertes prematuras menos.<\/p>\n

Ten states currently require that a certain percentage of new vehicles sold within the state must be zero-emission vehicles. While state commitments like these play a vital role in the transition to electric and zero-emission vehicles, Merkley and Levin said a federal policy is needed to ensure the entire country experiences the benefits of ZEVs in protecting public health and reducing lost workdays.<\/p>\n
