Washington DC<\/i><\/b> – Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley today announced that Clackamas and Washington counties as well as the cities of Beaverton and Hillsboro will receive nearly $9 million in federal grants for housing assistance.<\/p>\n

The grants are aimed at providing help for low- and moderate-income people, assisting people trying to find permanent housing after experiencing homelessness and expanding the housing supply for low-income families.<\/p>\n

 “Increasing housing prices have walloped Oregonians throughout our state, and that’s painfully true in the metropolitan Portland area,” <\/b>dijo Wyden. “This much-needed assistance will help Washington and Clackamas counties, Beaverton and Hillsboro provide Oregonians with one of the most basic human needs – a safe place to live.”<\/b><\/p>\n

“Oregon, and especially the Portland Metro region, has been grappling with the biggest housing crisis in decades, with rents dramatically outpacing incomes and affordable housing increasingly difficult to find,” <\/b>dijo Merkley. “Every family deserves a decent, safe, and affordable place to call home, and while much more needs to be done, these grants will support our most vulnerable neighbors.”<\/b><\/p>\n

 “Thanks to Senators Wyden, Merkley, and the rest of our federal delegation who support these important programs, these funds will enable us to provide housing rehabilitation assistance — and provide additional resources to low-income communities and neighborhoods — to a far larger number of low-income residents here in Clackamas County,”<\/b> said Kevin Ko, Housing and Community Development Manager of Clackamas County’s Department of Health, Housing and Human Services.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
