Washington DC<\/i><\/b> \u2013 Los senadores Ron Wyden y Jeff Merkley y los representantes Peter DeFazio y Jared Huffman instaron hoy encarecidamente a los funcionarios federales a extender las protecciones provisionales de extracci\u00f3n de minerales para el r\u00edo Chetco en el suroeste de Oreg\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

La carta de los legisladores al secretario del Interior, Ryan Zinke, y al secretario de Agricultura, Sonny Perdue, se\u00f1ala que su solicitud para el r\u00edo ic\u00f3nico es urgente porque la actual extracci\u00f3n de minerales de cinco a\u00f1os para 17 millas del Chetco expirar\u00e1 el 25 de julio.<\/p>\n

Si la protecci\u00f3n actual no se extiende, escribieron, \u201cPerderemos un terreno precioso en la protecci\u00f3n de este r\u00edo de salm\u00f3n y trucha arco\u00edris de clase mundial y fuente de agua potable para dos comunidades mientras el Congreso considera nuestra legislaci\u00f3n para hacer que la retirada sea permanente\u201d.<\/b><\/p>\n

Desde 2010 se ha introducido en la C\u00e1mara y el Senado una legislaci\u00f3n para hacer permanente la retirada de minerales de Chectco. Wyden, Merkley, DeFazio y Huffman tambi\u00e9n se\u00f1alan que la retirada provisional de cinco a\u00f1os ha obtenido un fuerte apoyo local y federal.<\/p>\n
