{"id":4668,"date":"2018-02-04T17:49:00","date_gmt":"2018-02-04T22:49:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.merkley.senate.gov\/white-house-to-withdraw-environmental-picks-nomination\/"},"modified":"2023-07-24T11:08:26","modified_gmt":"2023-07-24T15:08:26","slug":"white-house-to-withdraw-environmental-picks-nomination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.merkley.senate.gov\/es\/white-house-to-withdraw-environmental-picks-nomination\/","title":{"rendered":"La Casa Blanca retirar\u00e1 la nominaci\u00f3n de un ambientalista"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"el__leafmedia el__leafmedia--sourced-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"zn-body__paragraph speakable\"><cite class=\"el-editorial-source\">(CNN)<\/cite>The White House plans to withdraw Kathleen Hartnett White&#8217;s nomination to head the Council on Environmental Quality, a White House official confirmed to CNN Saturday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph speakable\">The Washington Post first&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/energy-environment\/wp\/2018\/02\/03\/white-house-to-withdraw-controversial-nominee-to-head-council-on-environmental-quality\/?utm_term=.e4b26440bb63\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportado<\/a>&nbsp;the plan to drop the nomination.<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph speakable\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph speakable\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/11\/09\/politics\/kfile-khw-senate-hearing\/index.html\">CNN&#8217;s KFile<\/a>&nbsp;reported Hartnett White, who would have overseen environmental and energy policies across the government, had described the belief in &#8220;global warming&#8221; as a &#8220;kind of paganism&#8221; for &#8220;secular elites&#8221; during a September 2016 interview on &#8220;The Right Perspective,&#8221; an online conservative radio show.<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph speakable\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\">She has also said the goal of climate activists and the United Nations was an all-powerful, one-world government and &#8220;planetary management,&#8221;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/10\/31\/politics\/kfile-khw-all-powerful-government\/index.html\">KFile reported.<\/a><\/div>\n<ul class=\"cn cn-list-hierarchical-xs cn--idx-5 cn-zoneAdContainer\" data-layout=\"list-hierarchical-xs\"><\/ul>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\">President Donald Trump announced Hartnett White&#8217;s nomination in October and re-submitted her nomination to the Senate in January.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/11\/08\/politics\/trump-environmental-nominees-question-climate-science\/index.html\">Senators challenged her statements about climate change,&nbsp;<\/a>which go against the scientific consensus that man-made greenhouse gases are the primary driver of rising temperatures, during her confirmation hearing in November.<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__read-all\">\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\">When Oregon Democrat Jeff Merkley pressed her on her past comments at the confirmation hearing, Hartnett White responded, &#8220;I believe those words, senator, with all due respect, have been taken out of context.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\">&#8220;Well, they&#8217;re words directly from your writings,&#8221; Merkley responded.<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\">Merkley noted that there are multiple quotes from White &#8220;calling environmentalists Marxist, and those who are concerned about climate change as pagans.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\">&#8220;I think I submitted about 100 pages of either commentaries or research studies that I have done.
