WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 El senador de Oreg\u00f3n, Jeff Merkley, emiti\u00f3 la siguiente declaraci\u00f3n despu\u00e9s de que los republicanos del Senado aprobaran su plan de presupuesto para 2018. El plan, que los republicanos impulsaron para poder aprobar un plan de impuestos en una votaci\u00f3n de l\u00ednea partidaria, recorta un bill\u00f3n d\u00f3lares y medio de Medicare y Medicaid, y aumentar\u00eda el d\u00e9ficit en una cantidad similar, todo para pagar las d\u00e1divas fiscales masivas a los 1% m\u00e1s ricos.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEste presupuesto es obsceno. \u00bfEn qu\u00e9 mundo tiene sentido robar billones de nuestra atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica y nuestro tesoro nacional, todo para otorgar una ganancia inesperada masiva a las personas m\u00e1s ricas del mundo?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSi mis colegas est\u00e1n decididos a gastar una gran cantidad de los fondos de nuestros ciudadanos, gastarlos para agregar ceros a las cuentas bancarias de los multimillonarios es una elecci\u00f3n equivocada. \u00bfQu\u00e9 tal invertir en educaci\u00f3n? En cambio, podr\u00edamos refinanciar los pr\u00e9stamos de todos los estadounidenses con deuda estudiantil federal a la misma tasa baja que disfrutan los grandes bancos, y establecer universidades libres de deudas en nuestras universidades p\u00fablicas. \u00bfQu\u00e9 tal invertir en infraestructura? Con billones de d\u00f3lares, podr\u00edamos renovar por completo nuestras carreteras, puentes, sistemas de agua, ferrocarriles y puertos obsoletos, e instalar banda ancha en pueblos rurales de todo Estados Unidos, poniendo a trabajar a millones de estadounidenses.<\/span><\/p>\n
