WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 El senador de Oreg\u00f3n, Jeff Merkley, emiti\u00f3 la siguiente declaraci\u00f3n despu\u00e9s de que los republicanos del Senado realizaran una votaci\u00f3n fallida sobre su proyecto de ley de derogaci\u00f3n de la atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica:<\/u5_p><\/p>\n

\u201cGracias a la firme defensa de millones de estadounidenses y el coraje pol\u00edtico de algunos senadores republicanos, el \u00faltimo proyecto de ley de derogaci\u00f3n est\u00e1 muerto, como deber\u00eda ser. El proceso que lo produjo es una verg\u00fcenza para el Senado de los Estados Unidos. Peor a\u00fan, compart\u00eda el mismo problema fundamental que los planes anteriores: no importa de qu\u00e9 manera lo mires, millones de estadounidenses perder\u00edan la atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica. Eso es inaceptable e indefendible.<\/u5_p><\/p>\n

\u201cTengo un profundo respeto por los tres senadores republicanos que se unieron a nosotros para proteger la atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica del pueblo estadounidense: los senadores McCain, Murkowski y Collins.<\/u5_p><\/p>\n

\u201cLos dem\u00f3cratas y los republicanos ahora deber\u00edan unirse para buscar formas de mejorar nuestro sistema de atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica existente: mejorar las opciones disponibles para todos los estadounidenses, reducir los precios de los medicamentos recetados y continuar reduciendo la cantidad de personas que carecen de seguro.                 <\/u5_p><\/p>\n
