WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 Los senadores de Oreg\u00f3n Jeff Merkley y Ron Wyden denunciaron hoy el anuncio del Fiscal General de los EE. UU. Jeff Sessions de que la administraci\u00f3n Trump comenzar\u00eda a retener las subvenciones del Departamento de Justicia de las ciudades y condados santuario. Las ciudades santuario y los condados son aquellos que optan por no designar a sus fuerzas del orden locales como agentes federales de inmigraci\u00f3n para mejorar la vigilancia y la seguridad al generar confianza y cooperaci\u00f3n con la comunidad local.<\/span><\/p>\n

Si bien quedan dudas sobre los detalles de c\u00f3mo el Departamento de Justicia planea implementar esta pol\u00edtica y si las comunidades espec\u00edficas de Oreg\u00f3n se ver\u00e1n afectadas, los senadores expresaron una profunda preocupaci\u00f3n sobre el esp\u00edritu detr\u00e1s de la nueva pol\u00edtica.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMe opongo firmemente a la nueva pol\u00edtica de Sessions\u201d, dijo Merkley. \u201cSi bien a\u00fan no estamos seguros de c\u00f3mo afectar\u00e1 esta nueva pol\u00edtica a las comunidades de Oreg\u00f3n, la pol\u00edtica de Sessions socavar\u00eda profundamente la aplicaci\u00f3n de la ley y la seguridad p\u00fablica, lo que resultar\u00eda en menos seguridad en nuestras comunidades en lugar de m\u00e1s. Amenazar con despojar a las ciudades de cualquier parte de Estados Unidos de la asistencia para los sobrevivientes de violencia dom\u00e9stica y las fuerzas del orden p\u00fablico es una mala pol\u00edtica que da\u00f1ar\u00e1 no solo la solidez de nuestra seguridad p\u00fablica, sino tambi\u00e9n a las v\u00edctimas del delito\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLos inmigrantes y refugiados no deben ser agrupados con despreocupaci\u00f3n como sin\u00f3nimos de delincuentes. El hecho de que la administraci\u00f3n parezca hacerlo es lo m\u00e1s antiestadounidense posible\u201d, dijo Wyden. \u201cCastigar a comunidades como Portland porque se niegan a delegar su polic\u00eda en manos de bur\u00f3cratas federales nos hace menos seguros, no m\u00e1s seguros\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Las subvenciones que las comunidades locales reciben del Departamento de Justicia se destinan principalmente a apoyar la aplicaci\u00f3n de la ley y la seguridad p\u00fablica. Estas subvenciones incluyen, entre otras:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>         <\/span>Subvenciones de los Servicios policiales orientados a la comunidad (COPS, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s) para apoyar a las fuerzas del orden p\u00fablico locales en sus esfuerzos por establecer relaciones con la comunidad;<\/span><\/p>\n
