WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 El senador de Oreg\u00f3n, Jeff Merkley, emiti\u00f3 la siguiente declaraci\u00f3n despu\u00e9s de votar no a la Ley de Autorizaci\u00f3n de Defensa Nacional (NDAA) de 2017:<\/p>\n

\u201cComo alguien que trabaj\u00f3 dentro del Pent\u00e1gono, s\u00e9 lo importante que es brindar el mayor respaldo a nuestros hombres y mujeres uniformados y planificar cuidadosamente un ej\u00e9rcito preparado para enfrentar nuestros desaf\u00edos globales y mantener a Estados Unidos seguro. Tambi\u00e9n conozco, por mi tiempo dentro del Pent\u00e1gono, la capacidad de los sesgos institucionales, los juicios pol\u00edticos y las batallas burocr\u00e1ticas para desperdiciar y desviar recursos.<\/p>\n

\u201cLa Ley de Autorizaci\u00f3n de Defensa Nacional que vot\u00f3 hoy el Senado no exige la rendici\u00f3n de cuentas y la toma de decisiones sensatas que necesitamos cuando lidiamos con el 16 por ciento de nuestro presupuesto federal y la seguridad de nuestro pa\u00eds. Por ejemplo, el proyecto de ley no proporciona estimaciones de costos confiables ni una evaluaci\u00f3n de las implicaciones estrat\u00e9gicas de un programa masivo de modernizaci\u00f3n de nuestro arsenal nuclear. Oculta expl\u00edcitamente el coste del programa de bombarderos B-21. Tambi\u00e9n protege a los contratistas de defensa de tener que revelar violaciones de las leyes de seguridad en el lugar de trabajo y antidiscriminaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n
