Washington DC -<\/strong> Hoy, el senador de Oreg\u00f3n, Jeff Merkley, present\u00f3 la Ley de Innovaci\u00f3n y Financiamiento de Infraestructuras H\u00eddricas (WIFIA). Este proyecto de ley crear\u00eda empleos y ayudar\u00eda a las comunidades locales a mejorar o reemplazar los sistemas de agua y alcantarillado envejecidos y da\u00f1ados. La legislaci\u00f3n ofrece una forma comprobada, moderna y eficaz de ayudar a aumentar la inversi\u00f3n en nuestra infraestructura y al mismo tiempo reducir los costos para los gobiernos locales y los contribuyentes.<\/p>\n

Pr\u00e1cticamente en todos los condados de Oreg\u00f3n, las comunidades enfrentan problemas inmediatos en sus sistemas de suministro y tratamiento de agua. En algunos casos se trata de reparar y reemplazar infraestructuras obsoletas. En otros, se trata de cumplir con los est\u00e1ndares modernos de agua potable y tratamiento de residuos. En otros casos, se trata de ampliar la capacidad para atender a las comunidades en crecimiento y a la capacidad industrial. La Sociedad Estadounidense de Ingenieros Civiles ha estimado que la falta de inversi\u00f3n en infraestructura h\u00eddrica ahora aumentar\u00e1 significativamente los costos en el futuro, y que la brecha entre la inversi\u00f3n real anual de Estados Unidos y la inversi\u00f3n \u201cnecesaria\u201d aumentar\u00e1 en $90 mil millones para 2040.<\/p>\n
