Washington, DC- El Senador de Oreg\u00f3n, Jeff Merkley, emiti\u00f3 la siguiente declaraci\u00f3n sobre la inauguraci\u00f3n oficial de la Oficina de Protecci\u00f3n Financiera del Consumidor (CFPB).<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cUn polic\u00eda finalmente est\u00e1 en el ritmo. Durante demasiado tiempo, los reguladores de Washington miraron hacia otro lado cuando las instituciones financieras se aprovecharon de sus clientes en un intento por aumentar las ganancias. El CFPB llena ese enorme vac\u00edo con su \u00fanica misi\u00f3n de proteger a los consumidores y las peque\u00f1as empresas de las pr\u00e1cticas enga\u00f1osas que fueron una causa clave de la crisis financiera.<\/p>\n

\u201cExigir la rendici\u00f3n de cuentas de las compa\u00f1\u00edas de tarjetas de cr\u00e9dito sobre las tasas y la facturaci\u00f3n tiene sentido. Tambi\u00e9n tiene sentido brindarles a los consumidores y las peque\u00f1as empresas la informaci\u00f3n que necesitan para evitar pr\u00e9stamos riesgosos o estafas. Por la misma raz\u00f3n que tenemos un organismo de control que evita que las empresas vendan tostadoras explosivas a consumidores desprevenidos, hace mucho que necesitamos la CFPB para proteger la integridad de los productos financieros.<\/p>\n
