Washington DC - <\/strong>La propuesta del Senador de Oreg\u00f3n Jeff Merkley conocida como el \u201cobstruccionismo parlante\u201d, que habr\u00eda requerido que los Senadores permanecieran en la sala para bloquear la legislaci\u00f3n obtuvo 46 votos en el Senado hoy, menos de los dos tercios requeridos, con cinco Senadores ausentes. Merkley emiti\u00f3 la siguiente declaraci\u00f3n despu\u00e9s de la votaci\u00f3n:<\/p>\n

\u201cEn los \u00faltimos dos a\u00f1os, hemos visto una obstrucci\u00f3n sin precedentes que repetidamente ha paralizado el Senado y ha impedido el funcionamiento de todas las ramas del gobierno. Cientos de nominaciones ejecutivas y judiciales nunca vieron la luz del d\u00eda. Ni siquiera aprobamos un solo proyecto de ley de asignaci\u00f3n el a\u00f1o pasado. Los senadores han bloqueado en silencio el debate de la legislaci\u00f3n y se han interpuesto en el camino de la agenda del pueblo estadounidense sin necesidad de dar explicaciones.<\/p>\n

\u201cSi bien estoy decepcionado de que hoy no se hayan aprobado reformas m\u00e1s estrictas a las reglas, hemos recorrido un largo camino en muy poco tiempo. Con el liderazgo de los senadores Tom Udall y Tom Harkin, trajimos este tema al frente. Y aunque dimos algunos pasos adelante en la reforma de las reglas del Senado hoy, hay mucho m\u00e1s trabajo por hacer. <\/p>\n

\u201cAhora tenemos cuarenta y seis senadores registrados que apoyan hacer realidad el obstruccionismo. Aprovecharemos ese apoyo en el futuro para restaurar la deliberaci\u00f3n en esta c\u00e1mara. Hasta que el Senado vuelva a ser un organismo deliberativo donde se fomenta el debate y la obstrucci\u00f3n es rara, continuar\u00e9 luchando para que la instituci\u00f3n sirva al pueblo estadounidense como debe hacerlo\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Adem\u00e1s del "obstruccionismo parlante" de Merkley, tambi\u00e9n propuso una paquete de reformas<\/a> con los senadores Tom Udall (D-NM) y Tom Harkin (D-IA), eso habr\u00eda aumentado la transparencia y fomentado el debate en una instituci\u00f3n donde la obstrucci\u00f3n y la disfunci\u00f3n han reinado supremamente.
