\nreleased the following statement in honor of veterans of the United States
\narmed forces:<\/p>\n

“Since
\nWorld War I, when a temporary cessation of hostilities between the Allied
\nnations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day
\nof the eleventh month, we’ve
\ndedicated this day to honor the patriotism, love of country, and willingness to
\nserve and sacrifice for our common good of those who have bravely defended and
\ncontinue to defend this nation<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“I have the
\ndeepest appreciation for both the service members who fight to preserve our
\nAmerican ideals of freedom, justice, and democracy and for the families that
\nstand by them.  Families are the true backbone of our military and their
\nsacrifices preserve our freedoms.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“It is our
\nresponsibility to provide our military members with the training and resources
\nnecessary to carry out their missions in far-away lands, and give them the
\nsupport and services to stay healthy and whole when they return home.  Our veterans stand up for America when on
\ndeployment.  America must stand up for
\nour veterans when they return home.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

"El
\nmany men and women currently serving in uniform and the veterans who met their
\nnation’s call are in my thoughts and prayers today and every day.”<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In honor of Veterans Day, Senator Merkley will attend the yearly
\nwreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery’s Tomb of the Unknown
\nSoldier. <\/p>\n
