Washington D.C.<\/strong> – Oregon Senators Jeff Merkley and
\nRon Wyden announced today that nearly $8 million for infrastructure and job
\ncreation throughout Oregon will be included in the Transportation, Housing and
\nUrban Development Senate Appropriations bill.  Projects in the spending
\nbill will create construction and other jobs that come with replacing or
\nimproving outdated bridges, improving traffic flow, protecting Southern
\nOregon’s fishing industry and addressing traffic hazards that threaten public
\nsafety. <\/p>\n

Also included in the bill is over $74 million for the final
\ninstallment of the South Corridor Light Rail Project (MAX Green Line) in
\nMultnomah and Clackamas counties, scheduled to open September 12.<\/p>\n

\n

“Rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure is a win – win for
\njob creation and public safety,” said Merkley. “These funds will help create
\njobs, repair our aging roads and bridges, alleviate traffic congestion and,
\nmost importantly, keep our citizens safe.” <\/span>  <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“To have a first-rate economy, you need a first-rate transportation system,”
\nWyden said. “Improving roads, bridges, mass transit and other similar projects
\nhelps create that high quality system along with high-paying, family-wage
\nconstruction jobs – the kinds of jobs we need to rebuild our economy.”<\/p>\n

The Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill must
\nstill pass the full Senate, merge with the House bill, and be signed into law
\nby the President before funds become available.<\/p>\n

Projects in the Transportation, Housing and Urban
\nDevelopment Appropriations bill include:<\/p>\n

Columbia River Crossing – $2,000,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funds will be used to reduce
\ncongestion, promote safety, and increase accessibility for drivers, transit,
\ncyclists, and pedestrians.<\/p>\n

Sellwood Bridge (Multnomah County)
\nReplacement Project – $1,300,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funds will be used for the final
\ndesign of a new bridge across the Willamette River in Southeast Portland.<\/p>\n

Redmond 5th and 6th Street
\nConstruction – $800,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funds will be used to remove and
\nreplace degraded pavement, curbs, and sidewalks.<\/p>\n

U.S. Highway 97 and J Street
\nIntersection Project in Madras – $700,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funds will be used to ensure a safe
\nand efficient flow of interstate traffic through the intersection.<\/p>\n

Pendleton Round-Up Facilities –
\n$500,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funds will be used to improve
\nfacilities for the rodeo, which generates over $20 million annually for the
\ncounty.<\/p>\n

Newberg-Dundee Transportation
\nProject – $400,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funds will be used to reduce
\ncongestion by routing traffic flow away from the downtown area.<\/p>\n

Port of Coos Bay Dock Equipment –
\n$350,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funds will be used to purchase new
\ndock equipment for commercial fishing vessels critical to the local economy.<\/p>\n

Albany 53rd Avenue Bridge and
\nRoadway Extension Project – $300,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funds will be used for roadway
\nextension to reduce traffic and increase public safety.<\/p>\n

Klamath Falls Brett Way Extension –
\n$300,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funds will be used to extend Brett
\nWay and create a new intersection to improve public safety.<\/p>\n

Hines Street Rehabilitation Project
\n– $300,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funds will be used to repair
\ndegraded streets in the city of Hines.<\/p>\n

Ontario Railroad Underpass
\nRehabilitation and Reconstruction – $300,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funds will be used to redesign and
\nreconstruct an underpass.<\/p>\n

Corvallis Highway 99 widening
\nproject – $300,000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funds will be used to widen Highway
\n99 to increase public safety.<\/p>\n

Moro 4th Street Improvement Project
\n– $126,076<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funds will be used to widen 4th
\nstreet and include paved shoulders, curb and gutters, and improve drainage.<\/p>\n

Silverton Senior and Disabled
\nTransportation Service – $39,429<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funds will be used to purchase an
