\u201cHace tres d\u00e9cadas, cuando llegu\u00e9 al Senado para trabajar como pasante para el senador de Oreg\u00f3n Mark Hatfield, nunca imagin\u00e9 que tendr\u00eda la oportunidad de sentarme en su asiento.  <\/span>Aspirar\u00e9 a servir con la misma integridad y bipartidismo que marc\u00f3 la carrera de la Senadora Hatfield.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNuestra naci\u00f3n enfrenta muchos desaf\u00edos en este momento:  <\/span>una econom\u00eda en recesi\u00f3n, nuestras fuerzas armadas involucradas en dos guerras, amenazas globales del cambio clim\u00e1tico y la proliferaci\u00f3n de estados con armas nucleares.  <\/span>Este no es el momento para un cambio gradual: necesitamos un liderazgo y una acci\u00f3n audaces para abordar estos desaf\u00edos.  <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNecesitamos aprobar de inmediato un paquete de recuperaci\u00f3n econ\u00f3mica para crear empleos con salarios dignos y sentar las bases para el crecimiento futuro.  <\/span>Necesitamos invertir en energ\u00eda verde y aprovechar el legado de innovaci\u00f3n de Estados Unidos.  <\/span>Necesitamos poner fin a las pr\u00e1cticas comerciales depredadoras que agotaron la riqueza de los trabajadores estadounidenses y socavaron nuestros mercados financieros.  <\/span>Y debemos comenzar la dif\u00edcil tarea de restaurar la reputaci\u00f3n de Estados Unidos en el mundo poniendo fin de manera responsable a la guerra en Irak.<\/span><\/p>\n
