Washington DC<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Los senadores estadounidenses Ron Wyden, Jeff Merkley y sus colegas del Senado reintrodujeron hoy una legislaci\u00f3n que garantizar\u00eda que las v\u00edctimas de la violencia con armas de fuego en Oreg\u00f3n y en todo el pa\u00eds tengan su d\u00eda en los tribunales y que las empresas y vendedores de armas negligentes no est\u00e9n protegidos de responsabilidad cuando desatiendan la seguridad p\u00fablica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El Ley de igualdad de acceso a la justicia para las v\u00edctimas de la violencia armada<\/em> derogar\u00eda la Ley de Protecci\u00f3n del Comercio L\u00edcito de Armas<\/em>, aprobada por el Congreso en 2005, que otorga a la industria de armas un escudo de responsabilidad legal \u00fanico e injustificable que protege a los fabricantes de armas de juicios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cLos fabricantes de armas no pueden seguir saliendo impunes con negligencia grave cuando ignoran la seguridad p\u00fablica\u201d,<\/strong> dijo Wyden. \u201cLas v\u00edctimas de la violencia armada merecen su d\u00eda en la corte y el Congreso deber\u00eda despejar ese camino hacia la justicia al revocar las protecciones especiales de la industria de las armas que protegen a los fabricantes de armas de juicios. Luchar\u00e9 duro para asegurar la Ley de igualdad de acceso a la justicia para las v\u00edctimas de la violencia armada <\/em>se aprueba y firma como ley\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA medida que continuamos enfrent\u00e1ndonos a una crisis de violencia armada en todo el pa\u00eds, debemos asegurarnos de que las empresas y los vendedores de armas rindan cuentas cuando su negligencia cueste vidas\u201d. <\/strong>dijo Merkley. \u201cPor el bien de todos aquellos que han perdido a seres queridos en esta tr\u00e1gica epidemia, debemos tomar nuestro dolor y pena y convertirlo en acci\u00f3n real, con esta y otras reformas de seguridad de armas de sentido com\u00fan\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Cuando el Congreso aprob\u00f3 la Ley de Protecci\u00f3n del Comercio L\u00edcito de Armas<\/em>, sus partidarios argumentaron que era necesario proteger a la industria de las armas de juicios fr\u00edvolos y que las v\u00edctimas de la violencia con armas de fuego no ser\u00edan excluidas de los tribunales. En realidad, numerosos casos en todo el pa\u00eds han sido desestimados sobre la base de la Ley de Protecci\u00f3n del Comercio L\u00edcito de Armas<\/em>, incluso cuando los comerciantes y fabricantes de armas actuaron de una manera que calificar\u00eda como negligente si se tratara de cualquier otro producto. A las v\u00edctimas en estos casos se les neg\u00f3 el derecho incluso a descubrir o presentar pruebas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Para restablecer el equilibrio, el Ley de igualdad de acceso a la justicia para las v\u00edctimas de la violencia armada<\/em> permitir\u00eda que los casos civiles avancen contra los malos actores irresponsables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
