Merkley Announces Intention to Vote to Confirm Judge Sotomayor
WASHINGTON, DC – Oregon’s Senator
Jeff Merkley announced today that he would vote to confirm Supreme Court
nominee, Judge Sonya Sotomayor. His announcement comes after the
Judiciary Committee has completed a week of confirmation hearings.
“In my conversation with her and again in her testimony before the Judiciary Committee, I was struck by Judge Sotomayor’s close attention to details, tremendous breadth of understanding, and strong respect for precedent. Her long service on the bench has given us ample opportunity to review her record, and she is clearly a judge whose commitment and fidelity to the Constitution and its abiding principles shines through. I am confident that she will be an outstanding addition to our Court and look forward to casting my vote in favor of her confirmation.”
