Merkley: Republican Plan to Dismantle Medicare Breaks Covenant with Seniors
Washington, D.C. – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley issued the following statement after the Senate rejected the Republican budget plan:
“Instead of laying out a vision for the future that creates jobs for the unemployed or invests in education, clean energy, and infrastructure, the Republicans offered a budget that ends Medicare as we know it and gives bonus tax breaks for the best off. Medicare is a covenant with our seniors, and must be strengthened, not dismantled.”
Senator Merkley spoke on the senate floor today against the Republican budget. His full comments can be viewed here.
