Merkley to Vote “Yes” on Kagan Confirmation to Supreme Court
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley announced his intention to vote to confirm United States Solicitor General Elena Kagan as the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. His announcement comes as the Senate Judiciary Committee nears a vote on Kagan’s confirmation.
“The decisions made by the Supreme Court impact the daily lives of families in Oregon and across America,” Merkley said. “When I met with Elena Kagan, I was impressed by her intellect and pragmatic approach to the rule of law. Her well-established law career and her ability to build consensus among colleagues makes her an excellent and qualified nominee for the Supreme Court.“Through my discussions with her, and after evaluating her testimony before the Judiciary Committee, I believe that Elena Kagan will thoughtfully and fairly apply the law. I look forward to casting my vote in favor of her confirmation and believe that she will be a valuable addition to the Supreme Court.”
