Merkley, Wyden Announce $185,000 in Funding for Joseph State Airport
Washington D.C. – U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.)
and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) announced today that the Department of Transportation
has awarded over $185,000 in Federal Aviation Administration grants to the
Oregon State Department of Aviation. The funding will be used to install
automated weather reporting and observing equipment, rehabilitate an airport
runway, and replace the beacon and tower at Joseph State Airport in Joseph,
Oregon.
“We can’t keep people safe and get our economy going if airports are stuck with outdated equipment,” said Merkley.”This funding is a boost for the residents of Wallowa County and will strengthen Oregon’s infrastructure, create jobs, and move us towards economic recovery.”
“Improving infrastructure at Oregon’s airports is a safety requirement and a sensible way to create jobs,” Wyden said. “This funding will strengthen the economy of the town of Joseph and make sure those flying into Oregon do so safely.”
The grant is awarded by the Department of Transportation and will be disbursed by the Federal Aviation Administration.
