Senator Merkley to Travel to Israel
Will meet top Israeli and Palestinian leaders
Washington, DC- Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley is traveling to Israel over the Senate recess period as part of a Senate delegation. The group, which also includes Senators Kay Hagan and Mark Begich, arrived in Jerusalem today.
“This visit to Israel is an opportunity to meet with some of the region’s top leaders and get an on-the-ground perspective on some of the complex foreign policy challenges that directly impact America,” said Merkley. “I’m also looking forward to meeting with leaders in one of the world’s most vibrant technology and innovation hot spots and keeping an eye out for opportunities for Oregon companies.”
This trip will give Senator Merkley a firsthand understanding about the U.S.–Israel relationship, the peace process, views within Israel about options for dealing with Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, and important political and economic trends in the region. The Senator will meet with senior Israeli and Palestinian leaders and explore opportunities for bilateral economic and technological cooperation with the Israeli business community.
