Washington DC – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley issued the following statement after 42 Senate Republicans blocked a vote on the Veterans Job Corps Act.
“The men and women who have stood up for us, serving us valiantly overseas, shouldn’t come home to unemployment lines. That seems like a proposition 100 Senators could stand behind. But apparently, in an election year, even our veterans can’t compete with politics. When our service members are in battle, their only worry should be their mission at hand, not their job prospects when they get home. With sky-high unemployment rates for returning veterans, there is just no excuse for the GOP’s obstruction.”
Senator Merkley is a cosponsor of the Veterans Job Corps Act and has been calling on Congress to pass the legislation.
