Portland, OR – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley issued the following statement Tuesday following Intel’s announcement of their plans to break ground on a new fab in Oregon and an upgrade to two Hillsboro facilities. Today’s announcement represents thousands of construction jobs for Oregonians and between 800-1000 new permanent Intel jobs here in Oregon.
“Today’s announcement is great news not only for the jobs it will create in the immediate future, but as a reaffirmation by one of the world’s great technology companies that Oregon is a place to bet on for the future.
“The Oregonians working at this new fab will move Intel forward and help create new innovations for a company already on the cutting edge of high technology. This announcement solidifies Intel’s roots in Oregon and is great news for Oregon construction workers right when we need it most.”
