Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley issued the following statement on the passing of Oregon State Treasurer Ben Westlund:
I first met Ben in 1997 before I was elected to serve in the Oregon legislature. I was enormously impressed by his earnestnes and command of the issues. That first impression never wavered in the decade we served together. I was fortunate to work with Ben on many issues including the legislation that created the Individual Development Accounts to help low-income families fulfill their dreams. It was an honor to work with him and I will miss him. Mary and I are thinking of Ben tonight and our prayers are with Libby and the entire Westlund family.
